Privacy.

A personal website that wants to know as little about you as possible. Here is exactly what happens to your data, in plain words.

01Who is responsible

Kay Facher, Lucerne, Switzerland. For anything about your data, write to hello@facher.ch.

02The short version

  • The site does not add advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. An optional language preference cookie is described below.
  • Weather, lake and satellite data are fetched by the server. Optional live presence, browser speech features and external links can connect your browser to other providers.
  • Things you choose to send (a message, a lantern, a flight time, a question to the AI twin) are used only for that purpose.
  • The sections below distinguish local preferences, public contributions and optional online services.

03When you visit

Vercel hosts this site and processes technical data such as your IP address, browser, requested page and request time to deliver and protect it. Server functions are configured for Frankfurt, Germany. Vercel may also keep infrastructure and security logs under its own retention rules.

Vercel's IP-based geolocation can provide an approximate country, city and coordinates. The request-path diagram returns these to your own browser to illustrate the route to the server; the application does not save them. This is approximate network location, not GPS. The poster and optional presence use only the country code.

Forms use Vercel BotID and request limits. The application's counters use a secret-keyed hash instead of storing the raw IP address. Limits last from minutes to a day; local expired counters are removed on the next request or within about a minute while the instance is running. Without Redis, counters are separate for each server instance.

04Stored in your browser

You can remove these using your browser's site-data controls. Preferences and game saves stay locally unless you choose to submit a flight; conversation text is sent to the selected AI service when that mode is available, as explained below.

theme
Light or dark.
facher:last-visit
When you were last here and what the weather was, for the “welcome back” line.
facher:foehn-best / facher:foehn-best-jet / facher:foehn-mode
Your personal bests and chosen aircraft.
facher:pilatus
Your saved game in the text adventure.
facher:twin-voice
Whether the AI twin reads its replies aloud.
facher:twin (session)
Up to 40 messages in the current conversation. You can clear them with New conversation; session storage normally ends when the tab closes, although browser session restore can restore it.
NEXT_LOCALE (optional cookie)
A language override set only by the terminal's locale command. It is sent back to this site and expires after one year.
Offline cache
Visited pages, app assets and the offline game are cached for offline use. They remain until updated or cleared through your browser's site-data controls.

05Things you choose to send

Contact form
Submitting the form sends your name, email address, topic and message to this site's server. When email delivery is configured, the server passes them to Resend for delivery to my inbox. Delivery is currently not configured: the form keeps your draft and offers an email-app link or a copy button. Opening that draft does not send it; you must send it in your email app. The application does not save contact submissions in a database. Email you actually send is kept in the relevant mailboxes for our correspondence.
Lantern guestbook
Your chosen name, note, drawn signature and timestamp are public contributions. They are currently kept in Vercel Blob; Redis is an optional alternative. The newest 500 entries are retained until replaced by newer ones or removed. A word filter checks names and notes. If Anthropic is configured, Claude additionally checks text and the drawing; if it is unavailable, only the word filter runs. Drawings are not automatically checked by the word filter. Write to me to request removal.
Flight leaderboards
Submitted initials, flight time, wind and game flight path are sent to the server for the daily paraglider or jet leaderboard. The game path is not your real-world location. Blob keeps up to 50 entries per daily board and the winning track; the ten fastest entries are shown. Redis, if configured instead, keeps flight records with a three-day expiry. Blob records older than three days are removed during the next successful leaderboard cleanup; cleanup is attempted when boards are read or written and may be delayed while the site is idle or storage is unavailable.
AI twin
The mode label tells you whether replies use prepared answers, a browser model or Claude. Cloud AI is currently not configured. Prepared answers run in your browser. In on-device mode the model processes the question locally. If Claude is enabled, your question, recent conversation and a short page-state description (such as chapter, theme and computed ISS position) are sent through this server to Anthropic. The application does not persist conversations on the server. Microphone use is optional: your browser's speech-recognition service may process audio remotely under its own settings and terms, even when replies use an on-device model.
Who's here
Live presence is currently not configured, so the site runs in solo mode. If enabled, Liveblocks receives and shares cursor position, chapter, country code, lake interactions and in-game flight position with other visitors while the page is open. It does not receive your approximate city or IP-derived coordinates from the trace endpoint. The application does not save presence history.

06Where data is processed

The current deployment uses Vercel for hosting, bot protection and Blob storage. Functions are configured for Frankfurt. This does not mean that every provider operation, backup or infrastructure log stays in that region. Optional providers below receive feature data only when their integration is enabled. Their processing locations and retention are governed by the configured service and its applicable terms; this notice does not assert unverified regional or contractual guarantees.

  • Vercel — hosting, BotID and current guestbook/leaderboard storage
  • Anthropic — optional cloud replies and drawing/text moderation
  • Liveblocks — optional live presence
  • Upstash Redis — optional storage and shared rate limits
  • Resend — optional contact email delivery
  • Your email and browser speech providers — when you use those features
